n-dency. The skin should be kept energetic, if the patient is robust, bythe morning cold bath with friction after it but if he is weak anddebilitated, the evening warm bath should be substituted. The patientshould dress warmly, stay away from quick alternations in temperature, and becareful not to have the skin out of the blue chilled. Diet program in Gout.—Most persons over forty consume as well much. Eatreasonably and at standard hours and take loads of time to consume. Donot consume as well freely of meats and steer clear of also significantly starchy and sugaryfoods. Fresh veggies and fruits could be employed freely, except cran-berries and bananas. Dr. Osier of England says.—While all stimulants are injuriousto these patients some are a lot more so than other folks, particularly maltedliquors, champagne, port and a really big proportion of all the lightwines. Consider huge quantities of water on an empty stomach, mineralwaters are no much better than other people, but remedy of continual and irreg-ular gout at springs provides the benefit of regular hours, diet program, and so forth.

CONSTITUTIONAL Conditions 317 Diet program from a prominent hospital for gout patient:—May Get-Soups.—Fresh fish soups, vegetable broths clear. Fish.—Raw oysters, fresh fish, boiled. Meats.—Fat bacon, boiled or broiled chicken, game (all sparingly). Farinaceous.—Cracked wheat, oatmeal, rice, sago, hominy, wholewheat bread, or biscuits, rye bread, graham bread or rolls, crackers,dry toast, milk toast, macaroni. Vegetables.—Mashed potatoes, green peas, string beans, spinach,cabbage, cucumbers, cresses, lettuce, celery. Desserts.—Plain milk pudding, junket, rice and milk, sago andmilk, stewed fruits, all without having sugar. Drinks.—Weak tea (no sugar), milk, buttermilk, toast water, purewater, cold or hot.
